Crops

Typically in the area we live, the most common crops are Corn, Wheat and Soy Beans which are usually planted on a rotation. We figured we’d like to experiment with some variations of the above. \we researched the history of Crops that had been grown in Ontario and Discovered that Hops and Barley were once a cash crop in our area. We like our beer and had an acre or so of land that we could put into a test plot. So we decided to grow Hops… Not an easy thing to set up and establish. They are not like corn where you basically plant and forget until harvest. These very cool plants do require lots of attention and you really have to keep an eye on things. It’s kinda like cramming a whole years work into six months.

Here is a shot of me driving the combine a couple of harvests ago.
